happy newlywed (2018)
The more materiality-based virtual mini collection is inspired from a wedding party back in period of the 80’s in China. Based on my original background story of imagining a young engaged couple who invited their friends to their home, holding a private dancing party with disco music to celebrate their wedding. However, the party have been reported to upper government and they all have been arrested under the crime title of Hooliganism.

The concept was showing a combination of sarcasm and contrast in Chinese society at that time, when people don’t have to wear uniforms right after the cultural revolution and everyone tried to be unique. It was a period full of hope, open and restriction at the same time.
This collection is a rental collection for people who are brides/bridegrooms and who want to go a wedding party with statements of that time. For the materials, I chose classical satin and self-developed printed organza. Most of the materials are 100% silk since the quality of the clothes is very important according to my interview with my grandparents and parents. Using knit is also a highlight in this collection, because I considered China in the 80’s is facing a problem of fabric shortage. People started knitting for both practical and sentimental reason.】
